Ruto Says Action Was Requested by Doctors
According to the president, the decision to act followed concerns raised by medical professionals about the management of the hospital.
“As president of the Republic of Kenya and as patron of Nairobi Hospital, senior doctors and professionals approached me to save Nairobi Hospital from conmen, fraudsters and charlatans,” Ruto said.
He confirmed that he subsequently directed action against individuals suspected of engaging in fraudulent activities at the institution.
Crackdown on Alleged Fraud
Ruto stated that those implicated would be removed from their positions and taken through the legal process.
“That is why I have instructed with clarity that all those who are involved in fraudulent activities in Nairobi Hospital will be removed; they will be taken to court, and they will be charged,” he said.
The remarks come as several hospital directors face charges in court over alleged irregularities in the registration of members linked to the Kenya Hospital Association.
President Hits Out at Opposition
The president also criticized opposition leaders who have condemned the arrests, dismissing their concerns.
“I want to tell the brainless opposition to find something else to do. They are just scavengers, scavenging on any headline,” he said.
Ruto dismissed claims that Nairobi Hospital is being taken over, insisting the institution remains a public-serving facility.
“There is no way I am going to allow Nairobi Hospital to be taken over or taken hostage by fraudsters,” he added.
Vows to Protect Nairobi Hospital
The president pledged to safeguard the hospital’s legacy as one of the country’s leading medical institutions.
“It is an institution that serves the public of Kenya, and we are going to defend its right to exist,” he said.
Ruto reiterated that the government will take all necessary steps to ensure the hospital continues to operate effectively and free from alleged fraud.
