Nairobi, Kenya – The Teachers Service Commission (TSC) has announced a nationwide recruitment drive set to fill over 44,000 positions in schools and teacher training institutions, in what is being billed as one of the largest hiring exercises in recent years.
Permanent and Pensionable Positions
In a notice issued Tuesday, TSC revealed it is seeking to hire 21,313 permanent and pensionable staff across various grades. The vacancies span leadership and instructional roles, including:
- Principals: 674 in regular schools, 15 in special needs institutions (SNE)
- Deputy Principals I: 971 in regular schools, 12 in SNE institutions
- Deputy Principals II: 930 in regular schools, 10 in Teacher Training Colleges (TTCs)
- Senior Principals: 490 posts
- Chief Principals: 105 posts
The recruitment also covers headteachers, senior teachers, curriculum support officers, and TTC lecturers. Successful candidates will be posted to institutions with existing vacancies.
The application deadline is Monday, August 25, 2025, at midnight, and all applications must be submitted via the TSC online portal. Manual submissions will not be accepted.
Internship Opportunities for Junior Secondary Schools
Alongside the permanent roles, TSC is offering 24,000 internship positions to support the ongoing rollout of the Competency-Based Curriculum (CBC) in Junior Secondary Schools.
The one-year internship programme will provide a monthly stipend of Ksh 20,000, subject to statutory deductions. Applicants must:
- Be Kenyan citizens with at least a diploma in education
- Hold a minimum KCSE grade of C+ (including C+ in two teaching subjects)
- Be registered with the TSC
Persons with disabilities are encouraged to apply. Internship applications open Tuesday, August 26, 2025, and close Tuesday, September 9, 2025, at midnight.
Fraud Warning and Recruitment Goals
TSC has warned jobseekers to beware of fraudsters claiming to offer assistance in the hiring process, stressing that recruitment is entirely free of charge.
“The Teachers Service Commission forewarns applicants against fraudsters who might extort money from unsuspecting persons purporting to assist in recruitment,” the notice read.
The exercise is expected to address teacher shortages, enhance staffing in both regular and special needs institutions, and strengthen the implementation of Competency-Based Education (CBE) across the country.
