Two Suspects Arraigned in the Murder of Wells Fargo HR Manager as Police Probe Intensifies

Date:

KISUMU, Kenya – Two suspects linked to the brutal murder of Willis Ayieko Onyango, a Wells Fargo Human Resource Manager, were arraigned in Kisumu on Wednesday, as investigations into the crime continue to unfold.

The suspects, Duncan Ochieng Obong’o, alias Otuchi, and Samuel Onyango Ongweso, alias Onyango Ja Boda, appeared before Kisumu High Court Deputy Registrar Gertrude Serem.

Duncan appeared on Tuesday, while Samuel was presented on Wednesday.

The court heard that the two, along with others, are accused of murdering Ayieko between the night of October 18 and October 23, 2024.

The incident reportedly occurred near Nyamboga stream, which borders Gem and Khwisero sub-counties in Siaya and Kakamega counties.

Ayieko’s body was discovered on October 24 in Nyamninia sub-location, Gem Yala, Siaya County.

His disappearance was reported six days earlier, after he attended a burial in North Gem on October 18. By October 22, his abandoned vehicle was found near a petrol station in Sabatia, Vihiga County, raising further questions about his fate.

The court ordered a mental assessment for Samuel Ongweso and scheduled his plea-taking for January 8, 2025.

Duncan Ochieng, whose mental report has already been filed, will enter a plea on December 18, 2024.

The murder has unraveled a tangled web of suspects, with police arresting five individuals so far.

Key among them is Victor Okoth Ouma, alias Sisco, who was apprehended in Nairobi’s Dandora estate and placed at the crime scene through forensic evidence.

Investigators allege Ouma used Ayieko’s mobile phone for financial transactions before withdrawing the stolen money.

Duncan Ochieng was arrested at a hideout in Bondo, Kisumu County, days after police apprehended boda boda rider Fredrick Otieno Omondi.

Omondi is believed to have transported Ouma during Ayieko’s abduction, playing a critical logistical role.

Police also confirmed that Duncan’s residence was identified as the site where Ayieko was tortured and killed.

Two suspects did not survive the manhunt. Police fatally shot Robert Okoth, reportedly Ouma’s brother and a former boxer, in a confrontation.

Authorities suspect Robert inflicted fatal injuries on Ayieko after allegedly demanding money and striking his head against a wall.

Investigators believe the killing was the result of a robbery attempt gone awry.

Police continue to piece together the events surrounding the abduction and murder, shedding light on what transpired over the week Ayieko was missing.

Ayieko, remembered by family and colleagues as a diligent professional, was buried on November 9, 2024, at his family home in Ongiende, Alego, Siaya County.

His family has called for swift justice, urging authorities to ensure all those involved are held accountable.
