NAIROBI, Kenya- United Democratic Alliance (UDA) Member of County Assembly for Endo Ward in Baringo County, Jeremiah Kibiwott Kiptum, has died in a Nairobi hospital after a long illness.
Popularly known as Jeremiah Biwott or Jeremiah Toriebe, Kibiwott had served as the elected MCA for Endo Ward in Marakwet East Sub-County since 2022.
His death was confirmed by Elgeyo Marakwet County Assembly Speaker Lawi Kibire, who described the passing as a major loss to the Assembly and to the people he represented.
A record of service
During his tenure, Kibiwott chaired the Committee on Agriculture and Irrigation, where he played a key role in shaping policies aimed at improving agricultural productivity and irrigation systems in the county.
He was also an active member of several other committees, including:
- Administration, Justice, Public Service and ICT
- Tourism, Trade, Cooperatives, Industrialisation, and Wildlife
Colleagues described him as a hands-on leader who consistently sought input from residents of Endo Ward before taking positions on legislative matters.
Governor Rotich leads tributes
Elgeyo Marakwet Governor Wisley Rotich also mourned the late MCA, offering condolences to his family, fellow leaders, and the Endo Ward community.
“With the permission of the family here at Nairobi Hospital, I wish to notify the EMC community and the people of Endo Ward that Jeremiah Biwott has passed,” Rotich said.
“I convey my sincere condolences to the family, friends, leaders, his fellow MCAs, and the entire EMC community.”
The governor urged residents to stand with the family during the period of mourning.
Funeral arrangements
Speaker Kibire announced that the County Assembly will nominate members to work with the family in organising funeral arrangements. Further details on burial plans will be communicated in due course.
