NAIROBI, Kenya — Former Kiambu Governor Ferdinand Waititu has hit another legal wall. His latest attempt to secure bail pending appeal has been shut down.
The Milimani High Court ruled that he will remain in custody until April 23—when the court will decide whether he can amend his appeal.
Waititu, who was convicted on graft charges, is now juggling multiple legal battles.
On March 18, he filed a fresh application seeking bail as he serves his sentence.
However, the court remains unconvinced, marking yet another setback for the embattled politician.
Meanwhile, opposition figures Kalonzo Musyoka and Eugene Wamalwa made a rare courtroom appearance to back Waititu.
Bail Denied—Again!
Waititu’s legal team, led by Kibe Mungai, argued that his appeal, filed on March 11, 2025, raises critical legal questions that could overturn the conviction.
But Judge Lucy Njuguna disagreed, stating that the former governor failed to present sufficient grounds for bail.
The prosecution countered that health issues alone don’t justify release, insisting that prison facilities are equipped to handle medical conditions.
With that, Waititu’s second bid for freedom collapsed in real time.
Now, the focus shifts to April 23, when the court will determine whether his appeal can be revised or amended. Until then, he remains behind bars—unless he coughs up Ksh53.5 million to secure his release.
