Kenya Calls for Regional Unity Against Foreign Terrorist Fighters at Tanzania Conference

Date:

DAR ES SALAAM, Tanzania — Kenya has reiterated its commitment to regional collaboration in countering the threat of foreign terrorist fighters, as highlighted during a conference organized by the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) in Dar es Salaam.

Led by Col. Yahya Mohamed, Deputy Director of Kenya’s National Counter-Terrorism Centre (NCTC), the Kenyan delegation outlined the country’s strategic priorities, including bolstering border security, fostering intelligence-sharing, and harmonizing legal frameworks across Eastern and Southern Africa.

The delegation also stressed the importance of combating extremist ideologies through united regional efforts.

Kenya’s call for unified action aligns with its ongoing counter-terrorism initiatives, which have increasingly focused on collaboration with regional partners to tackle shared security challenges.

Officials at the conference noted that enhanced cooperation in intelligence and legal measures is critical to disrupting networks that enable the movement of foreign terrorist fighters.

The conference brought together security experts, policymakers, and representatives from across Eastern and Southern Africa, aiming to foster a coordinated approach to countering terrorism.

As countries in the region face evolving security dynamics, Kenya’s leadership in the discussion highlighted its role as a key player in regional counter-terrorism efforts.

UNODC officials praised the conference as a platform to strengthen partnerships and explore innovative solutions to one of the region’s most pressing security concerns.

The outcomes of the meeting are expected to inform future strategies in countering terrorism at both regional and global levels.
