Shots Fired, Teargas as Armed Goons Disrupt Gachagua’s Meeting

Date:

NYANDARUA, Kenya- Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua and his allies narrowly escaped harm after armed goons attacked a thanksgiving event in Nyandarua County on Saturday.

The event, which was attended by local leaders and supporters, descended into chaos when the attackers stormed the venue, forcing Gachagua and others to be whisked away to safety.

This incident mirrored an earlier attack in Limuru during a burial event, raising questions about the rising trend of politically motivated disruptions.

Police officers at the scene responded swiftly, firing teargas and shots into the air to disperse the attackers.

Locals also joined in, engaging the armed group in running battles.

Despite these efforts, the violence caused significant panic and disrupted the gathering.

Speaking after the incident, Gachagua blamed the government for orchestrating the attack, accusing it of using both police and hired goons to intimidate him and his supporters.

“We know who is sending the police and goons to cause chaos. However, it is futile. Everyone has already left UDA,” Gachagua said.

The area Senator, John Methu, was addressing the event when the attack occurred.

Methu, now a vocal critic of the government, did not hold back his frustrations.

He launched a scathing attack on President William Ruto and his administration, accusing them of betraying the promises they made to Kenyans during the campaigns.

“This government has failed its people with empty promises and blatant lies. It is shameful,” Methu said.

The attack has sparked outrage among locals and a section of leaders allied to Gachagua.

They have called for investigations and the arrest of those behind the disruption.
