Archbishop Anyolo Condemns Rising Abductions in Kenya

Date:

KIAMBU, Kenya – In a speech during Family Day at the newly established Holy Family Mugumo Parish in Kiambu County, Nairobi Archbishop Philip Anyolo expressed grave concern over the increasing abductions plaguing Kenya.

Describing the crisis as a severe breach of human rights, the Archbishop highlighted the anguish of victims who remain missing, casting a somber shadow over the nation.

Archbishop Anyolo’s address went beyond the immediate crisis of abductions, as he urged anti-corruption agencies to intensify their efforts.

“Corruption has severely undermined development and public services,” he declared, reaffirming the Church’s unwavering stance against the pervasive vice.

His call for integrity resonated deeply, as he implored political leaders to transcend tribalism and divisive rhetoric, advocating for a unified approach to governance and public service.

In a bid to reinforce community ties and spiritual growth, he announced the establishment of a new sub-parish, St. Simon Kiroma, under Holy Family Mugumo Parish.

This initiative is designed to spur development and provide a haven for spiritual nourishment, with the Archbishop urging the congregation to rally behind church-led efforts aimed at uplifting those in need.

His concerns come amid increasing criticism of law enforcement’s handling of abduction cases.

Despite official denials of involvement, human rights activists have decried the police’s apparent lack of resolve in investigating these disappearances.

A recent Human Rights Watch report pointed to the involvement of a multi-agency security unit in some of these abductions, painting a grim picture of systemic issues.

The Kenya National Commission on Human Rights (KNCHR) recently documented seven new abduction cases in the past month alone, with six individuals still missing.

Since June last year, 82 disappearances have been recorded, with 29 people remaining unaccounted for.
