Mike Sonko Offers to Support Boy Whose Father Was Murdered While Taking Him to School: “Bring Him to Me”

Date:

NAIROBI, Kenya – Former Nairobi Governor Mike Mbuvi Sonko has offered to support a three-year-old boy whose father was stabbed and killed by suspected thieves while taking him to school in the Mathare 4A area.

In a long post on his official X account (formerly Twitter), the flamboyant politician said he was saddened by the incident that occurred on Monday, January 20, 2025.

“The father was a construction worker and a single parent struggling to raise his son since the child was three months old,” Sonko posted.

How the young Mathare boy reacted to his father’s death

According to eyewitnesses, the little boy cried as he watched his father being stabbed by the thugs during the incident that occurred around 5:40 am.

“He looked helpless, and unfortunately, the father died before an ambulance could arrive,” Sonko lamented.

At the scene of the crime, police found a lunch box containing ugali and omena, a move that Sonko observed was a clear indication of how the father was struggling to provide for his child.

“Since the child has now been left an orphan, as usual, let him be brought to me,” said the politician known for his philanthropy.

Why Mike Sonko offered to support young Mathare boy

Sonko reiterated that he would pick up from where the father left off and continue raising the child.

“May the Lord rest the soul of the father of this little boy child in eternal peace. May the thugs who committed this heinous act never have peace for the rest of their lives. I wish them a quick death through a mob,” Sonko’s statement on X further reads.

The deceased, identified only as Michael, was fatally stabbed on the right side of the stomach by what is believed to be a knife.

Residents have raised concerns over rising cases of insecurity in Mathare 4A, area F.

Following the shocking incident, irate residents on Monday morning temporarily blocked the police from collecting the body, with many accusing the officers of ineptitude.

However, officers from Muthaiga police station would later take the body to the Nairobi Funeral Home after a protracted ‘fight’ with the angry residents.
