Bridging the Gap: Bungoma County’s Partnership with EIDU Strengthens Digital Learning

Date:

BUNGOMA, Kenya – The County Government of Bungoma has strengthened its cooperation with EIDU, a world leader in tech-based learning solutions, as part of its ongoing commitment to digital education.

EIDU is a program that aims to improve public education in Kenya by implementing child-centred and play-based pedagogy.

It combines active learning, play, and technology to enhance learning outcomes and support government efforts in achieving educational goals.

In a move set to revolutionise early childhood education, Bungoma County Executive Committee Member (CECM) for Education, Agnes Wachiye, signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with EIDU representatives to roll out an expanded digital learning program for Early Childhood Development Education (ECDE) learners across all 45 wards.

Why Bungoma County has embraced digitalisation in education

While speaking at the signing ceremony held at the department’s headquarters, Wachiye praised the collaboration as a revolutionary step in modernising education and giving young students the necessary digital skills.

“This initiative marks a significant milestone in integrating modern technology into our education system. With over 450 ECDE schools and more than 60,000 learners set to benefit, our teachers will receive specialized training to effectively use digital tools for lesson planning and delivery,” she stated.

Joy Wesonga, a representative for EIDU, reiterated the group’s dedication to using technology to close the educational divide.

“We are excited to deepen our collaboration with Bungoma County and extend access to quality learning resources. Our platform, aligned with the Competency-Based Curriculum (CBC) and approved by the Kenya Institute of Curriculum Development (KICD), will help improve learning outcomes,” said Wesonga.

How young learners will benefit from the EIDU School App

Under the agreement, the county and EIDU will jointly fund the program, covering 50% of the costs to ensure affordability and sustainability.

The initiative will equip learners with smartphones pre-installed with the EIDU School App, providing interactive mathematics and language content.

The app’s offline functionality ensures accessibility in both urban and rural areas, enhancing inclusivity in education.

Additionally, the digital platform will enable county officials to monitor real-time classroom data, track attendance and enrollment, and make informed policy decisions for a more efficient education system.

The regional government has already piloted the program in all its wards and now looks forward to an expanded rollout, reinforcing its commitment to leveraging technology for enhanced learning experiences.
