NAIROBI, Kenya – Interior and National Administration Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen is set to embark on an extensive week-long tour of the six counties in the Coast Region, starting Monday, April 7.
The visit, part of the ongoing Jukwaa la Usalama County Tours initiative, will run through Saturday, April 12, and marks Murkomen’s first major countrywide engagement since he was appointed Interior CS in President William Ruto’s recent Cabinet reshuffle.
According to a statement from his office, the tour will focus on assessing the region’s security status, disaster preparedness, and the rollout of citizen services—including the Mobile ID Registration program introduced after President Ruto announced free issuance of national IDs.
Murkomen will engage with local leaders, security agencies, National Government Administration Officers (NGAOs), peace committees, and residents across the region.
His office said the forums will provide “an opportunity for direct feedback, transparent dialogue, and action-oriented collaboration between the government and the public.”
Among the key priorities is evaluating the region’s ability to respond to growing threats posed by climate change, such as flooding and extreme weather events.
The tour also comes on the heels of a security scare in Kwale County, where nine suspects linked to the outlawed gang known as Panga Boys were arrested in Msambweni on April 4.
The overnight intelligence-led operation was carried out by a multi-agency team including officers from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations and Kenya Police.
“All the suspects are being processed for further legal action,” Coast Regional Commander Ali Nunow said in a statement.
Murkomen is expected to meet frontline security personnel tasked with tackling both land-based and maritime security threats—longstanding issues in the coastal region.
The CS is also expected to interact directly with wananchi to assess the accessibility and effectiveness of government services on the ground.
