Five Family Members Lynched by Mob in Kisii Over Murder Allegation

Date:

Nairobi, Kenya- A night of horror unfolded in Metembe village, Kisii County, after an angry mob descended on a home, killing five members of the same family.

The villagers accused them of being behind the murder of a middle-aged man who was found dead about a month ago.

The attack happened in Masimba Ward, with the mob allegedly taking matters into their own hands before any court could. Among those killed were the family’s father and mother. Two other relatives escaped—barely.

And it didn’t end there. The rage spread fast. Six houses, all linked to the family, were torched. Everything was razed. Whatever might have remained of the home is now just ash and rubble.

South Masaba Deputy Commissioner Jane Manene confirmed the incident. She said officers from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) have launched a formal probe. But the question hangs heavy—where was law and order when things spiraled out of control?

The bodies of the five victims are now at the Kisii Teaching and Referral Hospital morgue. No arrests have been made yet.

This isn’t the first time vigilante justice has made headlines. But it’s a brutal reminder of what happens when fear and suspicion replace facts and due process.
