Apple’s AI Push Sets Stage for Everything From Glasses to Robots

Date:

NAIROBI, Kenya – Apple Inc.’s venture into artificial intelligence (AI) promises to transform its suite of products and pave the way for a new generation of devices.

Beyond enhancing current iPhones, iPads, and Macs, AI will enable devices that integrate more seamlessly into users’ lives, providing information and assistance proactively rather than requiring constant screen interaction.

Apple’s existing product strategy hinges on high-quality hardware, sophisticated software, and services like the App Store and iCloud.

Traditionally, software updates are rolled out annually, focusing on app enhancements. However, the AI era demands a different approach.

AI is set to take over many tasks, reducing the need for users to manually navigate through various apps. Consequently, annual software updates will no longer suffice, as Apple needs to keep pace with rapidly evolving AI technologies.

The forthcoming iPhone 16 lineup will be Apple’s first step in this new direction, with all models supporting the complete suite of AI features, unlike the current iPhone 15, which requires the Pro version for full AI capabilities.

These features will increasingly rely on cloud-based delivery, signaling a shift towards a hardware-AI-cloud model.

At Apple’s Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC), significant announcements are expected, including updates to iOS 18, macOS 15, and the introduction of new AI functionalities.

These updates will enhance user experience by speeding up tasks and delivering relevant information more efficiently.

Looking ahead, Apple is exploring various AI-integrated products, including home robotics and intelligent wearables.

Potential developments include home robots that assist with chores, voice-controlled tabletop robots, and advanced health monitoring devices. For instance, Apple is working on sensors for noninvasive glucose monitoring and AI-powered health coaching services.

Apple’s AI advancements will likely influence broader industry trends. For example, Dexcom’s G7 continuous glucose monitor, now compatible with Apple Watch in the US, exemplifies the growing intersection of healthcare and technology.

This direct connectivity allows users to monitor their health without needing their iPhones, highlighting the potential of AI-enhanced health devices.
