NAIROBI, Kenya – A substantial contingent of Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) officers was observed at Nyayo Stadium on Thursday, gearing up ahead of planned protests in Nairobi.
Witnesses reported the presence of an armored KDF vehicle, underscoring the seriousness of the situation.
KDF officers were seen receiving briefings from senior officials before dispersing to their designated areas of deployment.
The military’s involvement aims to support police efforts in containing potential violence from protesters who have threatened to storm the State House, a highly secured government location.
This escalation follows the gazetting of the deployment by Defence Cabinet Secretary Aden Duale.
In his statement, Duale cited the necessity of KDF intervention due to the ongoing violent protests across various regions in Kenya, which have led to significant damage and breaches of critical infrastructure.
The National Assembly approved the deployment but that has been challenged in court.
