December: Spirited month full of cheerful givers, spoils and celebrations

Date:

The year, with its many good and bad days, blessed us with December.

The month that loves to be indulged in. Unlike the other months of the year with lots of responsibilities and schedules, the last month of the year is much of a free-spirited one.

There is a general happy-go-lucky attitude among people. From party to party and events after events, the willingness to spend way more than normal averages, spoil oneself and others out of good spirits.

There’s a generous spirit doing rounds in people’s hearts that encourages spending on all considered. The common folk in the village marvel at the generosity and they, in turn spend too

Something about December brings about cheer and joy and improved attitudes, and we know it’s nothing to do with Jesus’s birthdate. For one month in a year, there are fewer worries, less negativity, cheerful givers, and a celebratory mood all around, and even the meanest of people would pass for the most generous and accommodating people.

Unlike the toiling months that are January to November, for majority of people, December is associated with unwinding and resetting before a New Year sets. All the merriment is a way to celebrate/enjoy the hard labour that has been the better part of the year.

Why go hard, though, only for one month?

Since time immemorial, December has been associated with soft life, merriment, and celebrations. It’s a time for family to put aside differences, forego pettiness, and, to some, put on armour of fakeness and pretences to carry them through the holidays. It’s a time to honour parents and grandparents’ wishes, reminisce about the good old times for a fraction of a period, and be one big happy family.

In unspoken words however, the month of December represents wishful thinking of all childhood expectations and adult desires that can’t be lived everyday. To celebrate and party at will, to have a good work-life balance, to tone down on responsibilities, and to overspend without having a mini heart attack at checkout.

December represents the disappointments we’ve had within the year that don’t have to put us down anymore because, in any case, the year is about to be done, and the challenges, hopes and wins of the incoming year are nigh.

With the happy-go-lucky attitudes, contagious personalities, and abundance of spending, one can only hope that the rest of the eleven months will carry with them the same affections. However, the opposite is true for most, and we are back to hard-hitting realities as soon as the year begins. It is expected to wish for a little more days or another month of what December is, but it is what it is.

In the meanwhile, all the questionable decisions are happily waiting!
