NAIROBI, Kenya- This year’s Agricultural Society of Kenya (ASK) Kisumu Regional Show will take place at the Mamboleo Showground from July 24-28.
A livestock auction is expected to be one of the highlights of the show and will be presided over by President William Ruto. This is the first time such an auction is happening in Kisumu County.
Kisumu ASK Chairman George Ong’udi has confirmed that the auction will feature highly improved livestock breeds, aiming to elevate the show’s profile.
“For the first time, we are going to have a livestock auction. Having high-quality animals has been a challenge, but this has now been taken care of. We expect the head of state, President William Ruto, and other high-ranking government officials to grace the auction,” Ong’udi said.
With over 120 local and international exhibitors expected, including participants from Uganda and Tanzania, this year’s show is set to be bigger and better.
The event’s theme, “Promoting Climate-Smart Agriculture and Trade Initiatives for Sustainable Growth,” will be reflected in various exhibits from sectors like agriculture, manufacturing, housing, SMEs, banking, hospitality, and education.
The show is not just about livestock; it’s a hub for innovation and knowledge sharing.
Sugar factories like South Nyanza (SONY), Chemelil, and Kipchimchim will showcase their latest technologies and products.
Through exhibits, workshops, and on-site training sessions, attendees will gain insights into new and emerging agricultural innovations.
Security is a top priority for the organizers. Ong’udi assured that thorough preparations have been made to ensure the safety of exhibitors and attendees.
“We have had meetings with the County and Regional police teams, who have assured us maximum security during the show,” he noted.
To make the event accessible to everyone, the organizers have set affordable entrance and parking fees.
Adults can enter for Sh250, children for Sh200, while exhibitor full members, single members, corporates, and essential service providers will pay Sh3,000, Sh2,000, Sh8,500, and Sh5,000, respectively.
Kisumu County Chief Officer for Agriculture, Erick Omondi, highlighted the importance of the technologies that will be on display.
These innovations, developed by the County Government, aim to entrench climate-smart agriculture practices to build resilience and enhance food security.
“We urge residents of the Lake Region to turn up in large numbers to learn and exchange knowledge on climate-smart agriculture to drive the region’s economy forward,” Ong’udi added.
