‘Such a Sycophant’: Celebrations Erupt in Elgeyo Marakwet Over Murkomen’s Dismissal

Date:

NAIROBI, Kenya – Residents of Elgeyo Marakwet and Eldoret are celebrating the dismissal of former Transport Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen, viewing it as a much-needed change in President William Ruto’s administration.

In Elgeyo Marakwet, the news of Murkomen’s dismissal was met with jubilant reactions.

For many, the former CS had become a symbol of elitism and arrogance, traits they felt were unbecoming of a public servant.

“He was too proud,” a youthful lady and a resident of the County Murkoment represent in Senate exclaimed.

She made her comments shortly after President Ruto announced the Cabinet reshuffle.

“Thank you Mr President for taking action,” she said.

Murkomen, who had gained a reputation for his trendy and luxurious personal style, was seen by many as out of touch with the realities faced by his constituents.

In a latest interview, the former Cabinet Secretary gave a list of his expensive personal items, including a watch that he bought for more than Sh900,000.

“It was overdue,” another resident said, echoing the sentiment that the former CS’s dismissal was a step in the right direction.

The celebrations extended to Eldoret, President Ruto’s hometown, where similar sentiments were expressed.

“The President has done well. He should now appoint a competent Cabinet,” one resident stated, emphasizing the need for capable and humble leaders in government.

“Murkomen had become too proud and was also arrogant. We are happy he is now gone,” another resident added, highlighting the widespread relief and satisfaction with the President’s decision.

The dismissal of Murkomen and his colleagues comes amid growing public dissatisfaction with the government’s performance and a series of protests led by the country’s youth.

The shake-up is seen as a response to these pressures, with many hoping it signals a move towards a more accountable and effective administration.

President Ruto’s decision to overhaul his Cabinet is viewed by many as a bold and necessary move to restore public trust.

The dismissal of high-profile figures like Murkomen, who had been accused of losing touch with the people, is being lauded as a positive step towards better governance.

As the dust settles, Kenyans are now looking to the future, hopeful that new appointments will bring much-needed competence and humility to the government.

The call for a “broad-based” Cabinet, inclusive of various political allies, including those of former Prime Minister Raila Odinga, suggests a shift towards a more unified and collaborative approach to governance.
