Hassan Joho Might Finally Join Cabinet But in William Ruto’s Gov’t

Date:

NAIROBI, Kenya – Former Mombasa Governor Hassan Joho has made his way into President William Ruto’s government.

President Ruto has nominated the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) deputy leader Cabinet Secretary for Mining and Blue Economy in the latest batch of Cabinet nominees.

Y News understands that Joho’s position is one of the negotiated Cabinet slots following a deal for the formation of the Government of National Unity between President Ruto and ODM leader Raila Odinga.

President Ruto made the appointment at State House, Nairobi, on Wednesday, nearly a week after unveiling the first batch of his Cabinet nominees.

Also nominated to the Cabinet is ODM deputy party leader Wycliffe Oparanya (Cooperatives).

Other Raila’s allies who have been nominate to the Cabinet include ODM national chairman John Mbadi (National Treasury), and National Assembly Minority Leader Opiyo Wandayi (Energy).

“I am still working on other pending nominees,” President Ruto said during an address to the nation.

Born in 1967, Joho is known to be fireband and straight-talking since joining politics in 2004.

He joined active politics in 2004 and went on to become the Kisauni party chairman for the Liberal Democratic Party (LDP) between 2006 and 2007.

During the 2007 General Election, he got elected the Kisauni MP through the ODM party ticket.

He also landed a role in late president Mwai Kibaki’s government as an assistant minister for Transport.

In the run up to the 2022 General Election, he opted not to vie for any seat after being promised a Cabinet position in the Azimio government.

He was to be Lands CS had Raila won the presidency in 2022.
