Is Raila Afraid of Kenyans Moving On Without Him?

Date:

By Shazia Majale,

NAIROBI, Kenya – Something about youthfulness is on display the world over and old timers are finding it hard to keep up!

With youth comes agility, chances to evolve and reinvent oneself, time and the grasp of the gift that keeps giving, technology. Being young and energetic and fruitful however holds in it a peculiarity that old age happens.

Times when one has less vigour, a lot passes by without notice, most happenings become elusive and futility becomes the view point.

The political regimens are experiencing al ot of obsolescence and the attempt to turn tides around is resulting in never seen before colours and some may even be referred to as One would be tempted to think they were caught unawares with the changes but for individuals that were spear heading changes in their youth, it’s more ignorance at play.

For starters, the Kenyan government found itself flat footed by the protests. While the infamous Finance Bill was dropped, the reforms being called for by the citizens still leave it unsure of what to do as their ” business as usual” is no longer usual.

Their attempt to save face keeps stripping them off any dignities it had left locally and internationally.

The once beloved Raila Odinga finds himself with an odd kick in the gallop with the actions of the populace. Initially, anti government protests were planned without his opposition party and by extension him not being involved, then he was asked not to participate.

Strange as it was for him, all his actions their after keep landing him and his political children in hot messes.

With many of his supporters still wondering why he couldn’t front someone else in the past elections, the recent happenings leaves more questions of selfishness and priorities.

One however still wonders if he is afraid of being obsolete? Of Kenyans moving on without him? Of losing his identity if he stops being a politician?

Our Ugandan neighbours experience the same malady with their forever grandpa, Museveni. A political person with no any other identity and a family either walking in his footsteps or too afraid as his subjects to chart their own path. Ministerial and government dockets are filled with the old yet hoping to advance with the world at the same rates.

The confusion with the Democratic Party in the U.S.A. is yet another example to live by. Biden, an incumbent president and, until a few days ago, a contestant in the presidential election, is another individual fading into Old age. Health risks, among other things, weren’t enough to convince him that better people are well suited for that opportunity.

And while Democrats keep strategising for the campaigns it’s sad looking from outside at the disarray befalling the U.S citizens at such critical moments.

So many reasons will be fronted for all the out of touch leaders and the discrepancies that keep happening in institutions and governments.

Hands that are tied and so forth.

The fallacy that rested with the voting majority however keeps peeling off layer by layer and would leaders are being left bereft of all the adornment they once had.
