Eldoret’s City Status Elevation Rescheduled to August 15

Date:

ELDORET, Kenya – The conferment of city status to Eldoret town has been rescheduled to August 15.

This decision was announced by Uasin Gishu Governor Jonathan Bii, who explained that the postponement from the original date of August 8 followed consultations with the national government.

“Following communication from the President’s office, the event has been moved forward by a week,” Governor Bii stated.

He assured residents that the preparations, including the beautification of the town, are progressing smoothly, and the additional time will allow for final touches to ensure a grand celebration.

The highlight of the ceremony will be President William Ruto officially handing over the city charter to Governor Bii at a special event hosted at the Eldoret Sports Club.

The new date coincides with the President’s visit to the town for the winners’ gala of the Kenya Music Festival, currently underway at Moi Girls High School.

The festival, a 12-day event, has attracted over 130,000 students and participants to Eldoret, infusing the town with vibrant cultural activities and performances.

Aligning the city status conferment with the festival’s conclusion is seen as a move to leverage the festive atmosphere and the presence of national dignitaries, ensuring a memorable inauguration for Eldoret as a city.

Governor Bii emphasized that all plans will proceed as intended to deliver a spectacular celebration, marking a historic milestone for Eldoret.
