ANC Approves Party Merge with UDA

Date:

LAMU, Kenya – The Amani National Congress (ANC) has formally approved its merger with the ruling United Democratic Alliance (UDA).

This decision was made during the meeting of the Amani Council and elected ANC leaders held in Lamu County on August 3, 2024.

The gathering, hosted by Lamu Governor and ANC party leader Issa Timamy, brought together over 140 members, including Members of Parliament and County Assemblies affiliated with the ANC.

“ANC party organs have agreed and resolved to approve the proposed merger between ANC and UDA,” ANC declared in a statement.

Governor Timamy expressed his confidence in the merger, asserting that the union would drive the country towards much-needed stability and progress.

“Politically, we are at the deep end and we need to hold on to each other so that we get to the shore,” Timamy remarked.

The merger marks a significant step for the ANC under Timamy’s leadership, who took over the reins from Musalia Mudavadi following Mudavadi’s appointment as Prime Cabinet Secretary.

During the Lamu meeting, key resolutions were made in line with the ANC party’s constitution, culminating in the formal approval of the merger with UDA.

The Amani Council granted Timamy the authority to lead, coordinate, and oversee the full implementation of the merger.

“Timamy, the Party Leader, has been authorized and granted the mandate to lead, coordinate, and oversee the full implementation and completion of the merger between ANC and UDA, time being of the essence,” read the council’s statement.

Support for President William Ruto and the Kenya Kwanza administration was reaffirmed by the ANC leadership, emphasizing the party’s alignment with the government’s agenda.

The leadership also stressed the importance of overcoming ethnic divisions to foster a conducive environment for social, political, and economic stability and progress.

“The leadership emphasized that overcoming ethnic divisions remains a national priority to enable a conducive environment for social, political, and economic stability and progress for our nation,” the council stated.
