Mawingu Expands Internet Services to Bondo, Siaya County

Date:

NAIROBI, Kenya- In a significant push to bridge the digital divide, rural internet service provider Mawingu has announced the availability of its network in Bondo, Siaya County.

With this expansion, Siaya becomes the 29th county in Kenya to benefit from Mawingu’s affordable internet services, marking a key milestone in the company’s mission to connect rural communities.

Mawingu’s latest move to bring internet services to Bondo is part of its broader strategy to expand digital access across Kenya.

“Our expansion into Bondo marks another milestone towards our long-term vision of making meaningful connectivity accessible to more Kenyans,” said Farouk Ramji, Mawingu’s Chief Executive Officer.

He emphasized the growing importance of the digital economy in Kenya and the need to support rural communities in tapping into the opportunities it presents.

Since its inception in 2012, Mawingu has focused on providing reliable and affordable internet to rural households.

The company currently boasts over 19,000 active customers in towns and urban centers across the country.

This expansion into Bondo is just the latest in a series of efforts to ensure that even the most remote areas are not left behind in the digital revolution.

High capital costs and logistical complexities often deter service providers from venturing into these rural areas due to the high costs associated with it.

“We will continue providing connectivity access to these areas, which have traditionally not been given priority,” Ramji stated, highlighting the company’s dedication to overcoming these challenges and delivering stable, reliable, and affordable internet to underserved communities.

To further enhance internet access and quality, Mawingu plans to lay an additional 50 kilometers of fiber in some of its existing markets.

This infrastructure investment is expected to unlock new opportunities in education, entertainment, and social connections for residents in these regions.

Mawingu is not stopping with Bondo. The company has ambitious plans to extend its network to more counties across Kenya this year.

“We are firmly focused on expediting our mid-term growth strategy of expanding our connectivity to additional counties,” Ramji added.
