NAIROBI, Kenya- In a bid to bolster cybersecurity in Kenya, the government has partnered with Huawei Technologies Kenya to provide Cloud Computing Security training.
This collaborative effort, spearheaded by the National Computer and Cybercrime Coordination Committee (NC4), aims to enhance the nation’s cyber resilience by training government officers across various ministries, departments, and agencies.
The initiative, driven by the urgency to safeguard Kenya’s critical information infrastructure, saw the graduation of 71 technical officers who successfully completed the training.
In total, 200 officers have undergone the program, equipping them with essential skills to combat cyber threats and ensure the security of government systems.
Speaking at the graduation ceremony, Principal Secretary for Interior and National Administration Dr. Raymond Omollo emphasized the significance of the training in the implementation of the Computer and Cybercrimes Regulations of 2024.
These regulations were established to protect the country’s vital information infrastructure, which includes systems operated by government entities.
“As the first line of defense, government departments and agencies must adopt robust cybersecurity measures to safeguard data, secure communication networks, and shield sensitive information from cyber threats,” Dr. Omollo stated.
He underscored the importance of ensuring that Kenya’s critical infrastructure remains impenetrable in the face of evolving cyber risks.
The training program not only focuses on the technical aspects of cloud computing security but also aims to strengthen collaboration between state departments and the NC4.
This enhanced cooperation is expected to streamline the government’s efforts in cybercrime reporting, investigation, and overall digital protection.
Deputy CEO of Public Affairs at Huawei Kenya, Steven Zhang, expressed the company’s commitment to supporting Kenya’s digital transformation.
“Huawei is proud to be part of this crucial initiative that empowers government officers with the knowledge and tools necessary to secure Kenya’s digital infrastructure. This partnership reinforces our dedication to fostering innovation and security in Kenya’s tech landscape,” Zhang remarked.
Also present at the ceremony was Col. (Dr.) James Kimuyu, the NC4 Secretariat Director, who highlighted the vital role of cross-agency collaboration in combating cybercrime.
“The security of our nation’s critical information infrastructure requires a unified approach. This training not only equips our officers with the skills they need but also fosters interdepartmental cooperation that is essential in today’s interconnected digital world,” he noted.
The Ministry of ICT, Innovation, and Youth Affairs was also represented at the event, underscoring the government’s holistic approach to cybersecurity.
