While Being Cutesy and Demure, Stay Mindful of Uncomplaining Troupers

Date:

By Shazia Majale,

NAIROBI, Kenya: Everyone loves a trouper. Someone reliable and uncomplaining. Someone who keeps you happy and makes you forget they exist. Not momentarily, but most of the time, and when they do remember they exist, they aren’t a priority.

We’ve heard about them, been friends with them, had them, or maybe we are them. They are nice human beings who provide support, unselfishly shouldering the burden of the ever-needy.

They do the most for the littlest appreciation, overthinking every action that stepping away could do to the people we are supporting and providing, and cleaning up after people taking all these for granted, so entitled to the help and not knowing when to stop.

Being a trouper is a nice place to be. The support and unselfish acts feel kind of fulfilling. A support system for someone else. To be very modest, very mindful, and very demure (mostly). Admirations and love in abundance

If you look into the lives of supportive people, you’ll meet emotionally exhausted people with split personalities, souls chipped at a flake at a time, struggles with self-doubt, and feelings of incompetency.

Interestingly, troupers are associated with a certain kind of romantic relationship. We meet troupers in offices, semi-formal and informal work settings, family relations, relatives, friendships, religious institutions, politics, and champs.

Tasked and expected to do the least nice things with minimum appreciation.

Narcissistic treatment towards interns and the junior staff at the work place. Overworked house helps that are less than appreciated. The mtu wa mkono in a building site. The ever-available and helpful personal assistant. Basically the lowest groups in a food chain.

While the world is suddenly super obsessed with demurity and the likes (and not to preempt on the trend, that so many people keep getting the challenge wrong or missing the point), a moment of reflection on mindfulness will actually help a load of people going through life feeling dejected and unworthy. Save on a lot of relations and probably save the political class from itself!
