HMD Skyline Launches in Kenya: Midrange Smartphone with a Focus on Repairability

Date:

NAIROBI, Kenya- The much-anticipated HMD Skyline has officially hit the Kenyan market, marking the latest addition to the midrange smartphone category.

Known for its commitment to repairability, HMD’s new device is designed with practical features that make it both functional and user-friendly.

But it’s not just about durability—the Skyline packs some powerful specs to compete in the crowded midrange segment.

In line with HMD’s repairability ethos, the Skyline comes with a removable back, making it easier to repair.

This glass-back design is complemented by an aluminum frame, giving the phone a premium feel without sacrificing durability. For those who prefer secure biometric authentication, there’s a side-mounted fingerprint reader that fits seamlessly into the phone’s sleek design.

The 6.5-inch P-OLED display is one of the Skyline’s standout features. Offering a 1080p resolution, up to 144Hz refresh rate, and a peak brightness of 1000 nits, the screen is both vibrant and smooth, perfect for streaming and gaming.

Plus, it’s protected by Gorilla Glass 3, ensuring it can handle a few drops and scratches.

Under the hood, the Skyline is powered by the Snapdragon 7s Gen 2 processor, paired with up to 12GB of RAM and 256GB of internal storage.

For those who need even more space, the phone supports MicroSD expansion of up to 512GB. Running on the latest Android 14, HMD promises two major OS updates and three years of security patches, ensuring the phone remains future-proof.

In keeping with its “digital detox” mantra, HMD has included a feature called Detox Mode. This nifty software addition limits social media and notifications, allowing users to focus on the real world without distractions.

Photography enthusiasts will appreciate the triple-camera setup on the back. The Skyline boasts a 108MP main camera with Optical Image Stabilization (OIS), a 50MP telephoto lens with 4x lossless zoom, and a 13MP ultrawide sensor.

The front-facing camera is equally impressive, with a 50MP sensor for high-quality selfies. The main camera can record up to 4K video at 30fps, while the front camera is capped at 1080p—more than enough for TikTok and Instagram content creators.

Plus, AI Capture Fusion technology ensures that photos come out detailed and vibrant, regardless of the lighting.

Keeping the device running is a 4600mAh battery with support for 33W fast charging via USB Type-C. According to HMD, a full charge takes 76 minutes.

The Skyline also supports 15W wireless charging and even reverse wireless charging at 5W—because sometimes your wireless earbuds could use a little juice.

The HMD Skyline comes in three bold colors: Blue Topaz, Neon Pink, and Twisted Black. It is priced at Ksh 60,000, making it a strong contender in the midrange category with a good mix of features and repairability.
