As the fourth industrial revolution gains momentum, Huawei stresses that embracing digital innovation is crucial for both developed and developing nations.
Kenya, East Africa’s leading economy and a growing tech hub, has ambitious goals for its manufacturing sector.
The government aims to increase the sector’s contribution to GDP from the current 7.2% to at least 20% by 2030.
Despite these ambitions, the uptake of advanced technology in Kenya’s industrial space remains slow, according to industry experts.
Speaking at the Gulf Information Technology Exhibition (GITEX) 2024 in Dubai, Huawei emphasized the need for economies like Kenya’s to develop comprehensive digital ecosystems.
These ecosystems should integrate the manufacturing, financial, and energy sectors to drive sustainable economic growth.
“We are combining our strengths in networking, storage, computing, cloud, and energy to build new digital and intelligent infrastructure,” said Li Peng, Huawei’s Senior Vice President and President of ICT sales and service.
Peng highlighted that the company’s solutions target key sectors including public utilities, transportation, finance, electric power, oil and gas, mining, retail, education, and healthcare.
Huawei also showcased a range of new flagship products at GITEX, specifically designed to accelerate industries’ digital and intelligent transformations.
These solutions aim to enhance operational efficiency and support businesses in navigating the challenges posed by the fourth industrial revolution.
In Kenya, Huawei has already played a pivotal role in supporting the M-Pesa mobile money platform and has partnered with the government on cloud services and AI initiatives.
The company has also been active in providing end-to-end services for small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) across the country.
Leo Chen, Huawei’s Senior Vice President and President of Enterprise Sales, reiterated the critical role that AI and next-generation technologies like 5G-A will play in shaping the future of industries.
“AI and 5G-A are at the forefront of the next wave of technological advancements, and we are committed to helping economies, including Kenya, harness these innovations to remain globally competitive,” Chen said.
