The recess is set to start on Tuesday, October 22, a day after the country marks Mashujaa Day.
Majority Leader Kimani Ichung’wah will table a motion during the House’s Wednesday session, seeking to adjust the parliamentary calendar.
According to the order paper, the motion will invoke Standing Orders 28(4) and 30(3)(c), allowing MPs to alter their schedule and hold sessions on Friday, beginning at 9:30 a.m. for the morning sitting and 2:30 p.m. for the afternoon sitting.
The special sitting will focus on “priority business,” including deliberation on mediated bills, signaling the importance of addressing urgent legislative matters before the House goes on break.
This session will take place a day after the anticipated conclusion of Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua’s impeachment trial, adding to the weight of the day’s proceedings as MPs wrap up key debates before the recess.
