NAIROBI, Kenya — The Government has established the National Crisis Communication Technical Committee (NCCTC) to strengthen coordinated preparedness and public communication as Kenya braces for the October–December (OND) rains amid evolving El Niño conditions.
The committee is expected to support coordinated communication and preparedness efforts as the country prepares for potential weather-related risks associated with the upcoming rainy season.
Meteorological Service to Provide Weather Alerts
The Kenya Meteorological Service Authority (KMSA) is serving as a technical member of the committee and will provide timely and authoritative weather and climate information.
Its role includes issuing forecasts, advisories and warnings to support early warning and early action.
The information is intended to help government agencies, communities and other stakeholders understand emerging weather risks and take appropriate measures before hazards escalate.
Government Urges Early Preparedness
The establishment of the NCCTC comes as authorities emphasize the importance of preparing ahead of the rainy season rather than waiting for weather-related emergencies to occur.
The government is encouraging Kenyans to remain alert to official forecasts and advisories and to take precautionary measures where risks have been identified.
The preparedness message is centred on three actions:
