TIANJIN, China-Mining Cabinet Secretary Hassan Joho has attended the 28th China Mining Conference and Exhibition in Tianjin, bringing together government officials and industry representatives to discuss international mineral cooperation and green mining.
Joho participated in the conference’s opening ceremony and the Ministerial Forum on International Mining Cooperation.
The forum brought together more than 35 ministers and delegates representing over 80 nationalities, according to the Cabinet Secretary.
Joho described the annual gathering as one of the world’s most significant platforms for cooperation in the mineral sector and said it had played an important role in advancing discussions on the global energy transition.
“The core objective of the conference is advancing dialogue on green mining development, focusing on decarbonisation of mining operations and ESG integration,” Joho said.
ESG refers to environmental, social and governance standards used to assess how businesses manage their impact on the environment, workers and communities.
The discussions are also expected to explore how China can share green extraction technologies with mineral-rich developing countries to support sustainable economic growth.
The proposed cooperation would focus on helping countries extract and process minerals while reducing environmental damage and emissions from mining operations.
Joho said the conference provided countries with an opportunity to exchange knowledge and explore partnerships aimed at making mineral development more sustainable.
The meeting comes as demand for minerals used in renewable energy systems, batteries and electric vehicles continues to drive discussions about responsible extraction and processing.
Mineral-producing countries are increasingly seeking technology, investment and stronger environmental safeguards to ensure their natural resources support long-term development.
China Mining Conference and Exhibition brings together government representatives, mining companies, investors, technical experts and equipment manufacturers.
The conference features policy discussions, investment forums, exhibitions and engagements focused on mineral exploration, extraction, processing and international cooperation.
Joho’s participation forms part of Kenya’s efforts to attract investment and technology into its mining sector while promoting responsible exploitation of the country’s mineral resources.
