KERICHO, Kenya- President William Ruto has concluded a four-day development tour of Kericho and Bomet counties with a pledge to accelerate projects launched during the visit and honour commitments made to residents.
The President ended the tour in Kericho Town on Saturday after inspecting, commissioning and launching projects in healthcare, roads, electricity, affordable housing, markets and sports infrastructure.
“We pledged to accelerate the implementation of the projects launched and commitments made as we transform the region and advance the development of our country,” Ruto said.
Among the major projects launched during the tour was the upgrading of the 80-kilometre Torit–Kenegut–Koitaburot–Kipsitet–Kapsorok–Sondu–Koilsir–Mindililwet–Mabasi–Machorwa–Getarwet road to bitumen standards.
The road project is valued at Sh4.6 billion and is expected to improve access to markets and essential services in Kericho County.
Ruto also launched a Sh1.6 billion Last Mile Electricity Connectivity project targeting more than 16,000 households in the county.
The President said the government was constructing 350 kilometres of roads in Kericho and had resumed previously stalled projects.
In Bomet County, he commissioned the 250-bed Dr Joyce Laboso Mother and Child Hospital in Longisa. The Level Four facility will provide maternal and child healthcare alongside emergency, theatre, inpatient and outpatient services.
Ruto also launched the construction of the 15-kilometre Kyogong–Kiromwok–Kisyet road and inspected ongoing work at Itembe Airstrip.
The President said Bomet had been allocated Sh19 billion for the construction of 11 roads covering about 380 kilometres.
He also commissioned the Bomet Affordable Housing Project, handed over keys to beneficiaries and launched the Kapkwen Modern Market and a last-mile electricity project.
On the final day, Ruto laid the foundation stone for the Chebunyo Amsons Mother and Baby Hospital in Chepalungu.
The planned Level Four hospital will have between 200 and 250 beds and provide antenatal, delivery, obstetric intensive care, postnatal and neonatal services.
The facility forms part of the Mama na Mtoto Kwanza Initiative, under which Amsons Group is investing $35 million, approximately Sh4.5 billion, to establish 10 mother-and-baby hospitals across Kenya.
Construction of the Chebunyo facility is expected to be completed within six months, with commissioning targeted for March 2027.
In Kericho Town, Ruto announced plans to support its elevation to city status through investments in housing, healthcare, water, electricity and transport infrastructure.
He said the government would construct 5,000 affordable housing units, beginning with 2,200 homes, and establish a Special Economic Zone to attract investors.
The President also announced allocations for the construction and upgrading of Kapkatet Stadium
