‘No Security Breach’: Sifuna’s Kisumu Airport Security Claims Slammed by KAA

Date:

NAIROBI, Kenya- The Kenya Airports Authority (KAA) has moved to reassure the public that security at Kisumu International Airport remains robust, after a security incident over the weekend.

A group of men was seen camping outside the airport, with Linda Mwananchi leaders led by ODM Secretary General Edwin Sifuna saying they had planned to attack them.

KAA, in a statement on Monday, dismissed claims of lapses

KAA refuted the claims by the Sifuna-led faction of ODM that unauthorized individuals had entered the airport premises on Saturday, February 21.

“KAA wishes to clarify that at no time were unauthorised individuals, groups or organised unlawful elements present within the airport premises,” the authority said.

Sifuna and the team were forced to land in Kakamega after the security incident.

Sifuna claimed that the group her termed them as goons of individuals had restricted access to the facility and raised questions about passenger safety.

However, in its rejoinder, KAA emphasised that images and videos shared online were taken outside the airport perimeter and beyond its security jurisdiction, meaning they did not represent a breach of security within the international airport facility itself.

“KAA further notes that images circulating online were outside the airport perimeter and beyond KAA’s security jurisdiction,” the statement added.

Airport security officials reiterated that all access points and restricted zones at Kisumu International Airport are monitored and controlled according to international aviation security standards, and that there was no recorded breach of those protocols on the day in question.
