MOMBASA, Kenya, Jan 4 — The Port of Mombasa welcomed the first cruise ship of the year, the luxury liner MV Crystal Symphony, which docked with over 1,000 tourists on board for a one-day stop in Kenya.
This marks the ship’s second visit, having last called at Mombasa during its inaugural voyage last year.
The 238-meter-long vessel with an 8-meter draft arrived from Port Elizabeth, South Africa, and will continue its journey toward India after a full day exploring Mombasa.
Tourists are expected to experience Kenya’s famous wildlife parks, Mombasa’s vibrant streets, and other local attractions.
“We’ve received such a warm welcome,” said Crystal Symphony’s Cruise Entertainment Director, Ms. Vicky Vantassel.
“Everyone is excited to explore Kenya, even if just for the day.”
The Port of Mombasa marked the arrival of the first cruise ship of the year this morning as MV Crystal Symphony sailed into port. The luxury liner returned to Kenya on a second call with more than a thousand guests on board, having last visited in its inaugural voyage last year.
Kenya Ports Authority Commits to Boosting Cruise Tourism
Turasha Kinyanjui, Corporation Secretary and General Manager, Board and Legal Services, speaking on behalf of Managing Director Captain William Ruto, reaffirmed the Port of Mombasa’s commitment to growing cruise tourism.
“The port is dedicated to improving guest experiences by upgrading facilities and ensuring cooperation with all relevant partners,” Kinyanjui said.
The visit of MV Crystal Symphony signals a busy cruise season ahead, with several more luxury vessels scheduled to dock in Mombasa in the coming weeks.
The steady flow of visitors is expected to provide a welcome boost to local tourism and the hospitality sector.
