NAIROBI, Kenya – Vivo Energy Kenya, the official distributor of Shell products, has responded to concerns circulating on social media regarding the quality of its Shell V-Power fuel.
This comes after a viral video by content creator William Kimm (GTR Tanuki) documented fuel tests at multiple stations, suggesting that premium fuel might not always deliver better performance than standard options.
In a statement released on Sunday, February 2, Vivo Energy Kenya reassured customers that all its fuel imports meet strict industry standards.
Official Statement.
“Our fuel imports into Kenya adhere to strict quality standards, with two standard Research Octane Number (RON) categories: Unleaded (RON 93) and Shell V-Power (RON 95),” the company stated.
Vivo Energy emphasized that stringent quality control measures are in place at its depots before distribution to Shell service stations nationwide.
The company also acknowledged the concerns raised in the viral video and promised to conduct a thorough review.
Nairobi, where do you fuel your car? @TotalEnergiesKE or at @Shell coz it looks like we are getting low standards fuel and @EPRA_Ke is working from the office/home. Inauma coz I fuel at shell for V- power. You pay more for a less. #shellvpower #Shell
Investigating the Viral Fuel Test Findings
The online controversy started when William Kimm shared a video showing unexpected test results from multiple Shell stations.
According to his findings: At Shell Limuru Road, V-Power fuel scored 87 PON, while the standard fuel performed better at 91 PON, and Shell Lavington, V-Power rated at 87 PON, while regular fuel achieved a higher 90 PON rating.
These results contradict the widely held belief that premium fuel always outperforms regular fuel, leading to a wave of online discussions and customer concerns
Vivo Energy Kenya assured the public that it is taking the claims seriously and has launched an independent laboratory investigation to verify the findings.
Shell have been selling fake V-power to us Kenyans and EPRA and KEBS are just watching? Or is this Shell untouchable?
“We take these claims seriously and have initiated a comprehensive investigation, including independent laboratory testing. We will provide further updates once our review is complete,” the company stated.
The debate over premium vs. regular fuel performance continues, and all eyes are on Vivo Energy’s next update as consumers seek clarity.
