Xpeng Announces Plan to Deliver First Flying Car by 2026

Date:

GUANGZHOU, China – Xpeng AeroHT, an affiliate of Chinese electric vehicle (EV) maker Xpeng, plans to deliver its first flying car to customers by 2026, according to co-president Brian Gu in an interview with CNBC on May 24.

The announcement follows last year’s unveiling of the Land Aircraft Carrier by Xpeng AeroHT.

This innovative concept features a large truck carrying a two-seater electric drone, which can detach from the truck, allowing passengers to fly the drone independently.

Gu stated that the flying car would be available for pre-order later this year, with deliveries expected in 2026.

This timeline is slightly later than the previously announced target of the fourth quarter of 2025. Despite this adjustment, Gu expressed confidence in the new schedule.

“The reason we are confident is that we are designing this for use not in urban centers, but for outskirts and scenic areas where we will work with municipalities to create flying parks and flying zones that allow people to enjoy flying without the hassle of getting all the complicated approvals,” Gu explained.

Xpeng announced earlier this year that the flying car is undergoing a certification process with the Chinese aviation regulator.

For initial use, passengers will not need a special license to operate the drone.

“Because we are using leisure and sports-related use cases for the initial use of that flying device, as you move closer to urban centers, you do need special licenses, and that will be a lot more complicated to get approval for,” Gu noted.

This development aligns with Xpeng’s broader strategy to expand into diverse areas of electric mobility.

CEO He Xiaopeng has previously highlighted robotics and flying cars as integral to the company’s long-term vision.

The company’s collaboration with local municipalities to create designated flying zones could set a precedent for the broader adoption of flying cars globally.
