NAIROBI, Kenya – Kenya is expected to remain mostly sunny and dry this week, according to a new seven-day outlook released by the Kenya Meteorological Department covering November 18–24, 2025.
In its advisory issued on November 17, the department said large parts of the country will see dry conditions, although light rainfall is still expected in select regions including the Highlands East and West of the Rift Valley, the Lake Victoria Basin, the Coast, the South-eastern lowlands and parts of North-eastern Kenya.
Daytime temperatures will soar above 30°C in many areas, particularly in the Coast, North-eastern and North-western regions.
Some sections of the South-eastern lowlands, the Rift Valley and the Highlands West of the Rift Valley are also expected to experience similar heat levels.
At the same time, several highland areas will grapple with chilly nights. Minimum temperatures below 10°C are anticipated in parts of the Highlands East and West of the Rift Valley, the Rift Valley floor and areas surrounding Mt. Kilimanjaro. Nyahururu will be among the coldest towns, with temperatures projected to drop to 5°C.
Across the Lake Victoria Basin and Western Kenya, residents should expect sunny intervals during the day and partly cloudy nights, with occasional morning, afternoon and night showers in counties such as Nandi, Kakamega, Vihiga, Kisumu, Homa Bay and Migori.
North-western counties including Turkana and Samburu will remain hot and dry during the day, with partly cloudy nights and no significant rainfall expected.
In the Highlands East of the Rift Valley — covering Nyeri, Kiambu, Murang’a, Embu and Nairobi — days will be mostly sunny, although isolated afternoon showers may occur as cloud cover develops.
North-eastern Kenya will stay hot and largely dry, with isolated morning and afternoon showers possible in Mandera, Wajir, Garissa, Marsabit and Isiolo. Temperatures could peak at 38°C in Mandera, while Garissa may record highs of up to 35°C.
The South-eastern lowlands — including Machakos, Kitui, Makueni, Kajiado and Taita-Taveta — will also experience sunny days and partly cloudy nights. Makindu and Kitui may see temperatures rise to 30°C.
Coastal counties will remain hot and humid, with Mombasa and Malindi forecast to record maximum temperatures ranging between 31°C and 33°C.
In its review of the previous week, the Met Department noted that only a few areas recorded rainfall.
Migori posted the highest seven-day total at 69mm, while Makueni registered the heaviest 24-hour rainfall at 54.7mm. Temperatures ranged widely, with Mandera reaching 37.5°C and Nyahururu dropping to 5°C.
The department urged Kenyans to monitor daily and county-specific updates, noting that conditions may change.
