How Parents Can Check Grade 10 School Placements on the KJSEA Portal

Date:

NAIROBI, Kenya- Parents and students across Kenya are now able to access Grade 10 senior secondary school placements following the release of the 2025 Kenya Junior School Education Assessment (KJSEA) results, marking a crucial step in the transition from junior to senior secondary under the Competency‑Based Curriculum (CBC).

The Ministry of Education has confirmed that placement results were released on December 19, 2025, providing clarity for learners and families preparing for the next academic phase starting January 12, 2026.

To check where a learner has been placed for Grade 10, parents can use two convenient official channels.

The fastest method is via SMS by sending the student’s KNEC assessment number to the shortcode 22263 — a service that works across mobile networks and costs KSh 30 per message.

JITIMU For families with internet access, placements can also be checked on the Ministry’s online portal at selection.education.go.ke/my-selections by entering the learner’s assessment number.

The automated placement system considers multiple factors, including learner performance in the KJSEA, selected learning pathways (such as STEM, social sciences, or arts and sports), psychometric assessments, equity, and available school capacity.

After checking placements, many parents are also engaging in the placement review process.

The Ministry opened a seven‑day window from December 23 to December 30, 2025, for learners and families to request adjustments to school assignments or pathways if the initial placement does not align with education goals or preferences.

Schools and county education offices continue to prepare for the arrival of the new senior secondary cohort, with placements expected to be finalised well ahead of the January 2026 reporting date.

As the CBC system embeds itself countrywide, transparent placement mechanisms aim to ensure fairness, accessibility, and alignment with learners’ aspirations.
