BAKU, Azerbaijan — Kenya has reaffirmed its leadership in Africa’s digital landscape during a bilateral meeting with ITU Secretary-General Doreen Bogdan-Martin at the World Telecommunication Development Conference 2025 (WTDC-25) in Baku.
William Kabogo, Kenya’s ICT Principal Secretary, highlighted the country’s appreciation for ITU’s technical assistance, including support for Africa Broadband Maps, strengthening of KE-CIRT/CC, and the Nairobi-based Global Innovation and Entrepreneurship Centre.
During the discussions, Kabogo formally communicated Kenya’s request for support in its re-election to the ITU Council, underscoring the nation’s top-ranking ICT regulatory environment in Africa and active contributions to ITU programmes.
He briefed the Secretary-General on Kenya’s major digital transformation initiatives, including the Digital Superhighway, 1,450 Digital Hubs, e-Citizen digitisation, the National Digital Masterplan, National AI Strategy, and the proposed National Cybersecurity Authority.
Kenya emphasized its commitment to deepening ITU cooperation in areas such as meaningful connectivity, digital government, cybersecurity, device affordability, open-source adoption, and digital skills development, while expressing readiness to host future ITU events and pilot projects.
