MOMBASA, Kenya – The William Ruto met with Arjit Pande during a courtesy visit aimed at strengthening maritime and trade relations between Kenya and India.

During the discussions, Capt. Ruto highlighted the importance of enhancing maritime cooperation and expanding economic engagement through the port sector, particularly via the Port of Mombasa, which serves as a key gateway for trade in East Africa.

The engagement comes as direct shipping links between East Africa and India continue to grow, reinforcing one of the oldest maritime trade corridors across the Indian Ocean, historically sustained by monsoon-driven sea routes that have connected the East African coast with Indian ports for centuries.

The meeting also explored opportunities to leverage new liner services, including a recently launched route by Turkish-based Akkon Lines under its East Africa Service (EAS), which provides a direct commercial link between the two regions and is expected to enhance cargo flows and deepen bilateral economic ties.

Also present during the meeting was Rama Kant Kumar, underscoring the commitment of both countries to strengthening maritime trade and investment cooperation.
