Kindiki Revives Stalled Roads, Accelerates Kenya’s Development Agenda

Date:

EMBU, Kenya- Deputy President Kithure Kindiki has announced a sweeping revival of stalled infrastructure projects, declaring that Kenya’s economy has stabilized and cleared the way for accelerated nationwide development.

Speaking during an inspection of the Gachoka–Kangeta–Gachuriri road in Mbeere South, Embu County, Kindiki said all road projects that had stalled since 2020 are now back on track following government intervention.

“The economy has stabilized, and we have revived all the roads that stalled since 2020,” he said.

The Deputy President revealed that Sh177 billion owed to contractors has been paid, enabling firms that had abandoned worksites to resume construction.

He noted that more than 6,000 kilometres of roads are currently under construction across the country, with new projects set to begin in multiple regions.

“Contractor debts amounting to Sh177 billion have been cleared and all contractors are back on site. We have 6,000 kilometres of tarmac ongoing across Kenya, and the Gachoka Junction–Kangeta–Gachuriri road is among those being completed,” Kindiki said.

He assured residents that the tarmacking of the Gachoka–Kangeta–Gachuriri road will be completed on schedule and commissioned by President William Ruto.

Kindiki attributed the renewed momentum to improved economic fundamentals, citing reduced inflation, lower fertilizer prices and a stabilized Kenyan shilling as key gains that have strengthened the government’s financial position.

“Now we have money to build roads, expand electricity, provide water and stock medicines in hospitals,” he said.

Beyond road construction, the Deputy President highlighted ongoing investments in water supply, electricity connectivity and modern markets. In Embu County alone, the government is building 12 modern markets and fast-tracking completion of the

Kiambere and Kamburu water projects to boost local livelihoods.

He framed the infrastructure push as part of a broader national transformation agenda focused on connectivity, trade and economic growth.

“This year, Kenyans will witness visible development and transformation across the country,” he said.

Kindiki maintained that tangible development projects, not political rhetoric,  will define the administration’s record ahead of the next election cycle.

“When the campaign period comes, we will showcase what we have delivered: roads, water projects, electricity connections, and modern markets. That will be our scorecard,” he stated.

He dismissed critics whom he said had previously held powerful offices but lacked development records, insisting his focus remains on service delivery and accountability.

The Deputy President added that the Kenya Kwanza administration is determined to complete all projects initiated under President Ruto’s leadership, both in Embu and nationwide.

Embu Governor Cecily Mbarire, who accompanied him, affirmed that the Deputy President’s position remains firmly in the Mount Kenya region.

“The seat of the Deputy President is not vacant. It belongs to us, and no one will take it away,” Mbarire said.
