NAIROBI, Kenya — The Kenya Urban Roads Authority (KURA) has announced a 15-day traffic disruption along Ngong Road near the Junction Mall area to facilitate ongoing flyover construction works.
In a public notice issued on March 6, KURA said the temporary disruption will affect sections of the busy road between the Naivasha Road and Kingara Road junctions. The works are scheduled to run from Monday, March 9, to Monday, March 23, 2026.
According to the authority, the disruption will mainly occur during evening and night hours between 6:00 p.m. and 2:00 a.m. as contractors undertake concreting works on the flyover deck currently under construction at the Junction Mall interchange.
“Kenya Urban Roads Authority wishes to notify the public that a section of Ngong Road near the Naivasha Road and Kingara Road junctions around the Junction Mall area will experience traffic disruption,” the notice stated.
During the construction period, traffic heading toward Karen will be diverted from the Kenya Science Campus entrance to the Nairobi City County Training School entrance, with only a single lane available in each direction during the night works.
However, KURA indicated that two lanes will remain open in each direction during daytime hours, meaning motorists are unlikely to experience major diversions during the day.
The authority said the temporary traffic measures are necessary to allow engineers to safely complete the next phase of the flyover project, which is expected to ease congestion along one of Nairobi’s busiest transport corridors once completed.
Ngong Road serves as a major link connecting Nairobi’s central business district to residential and commercial areas such as Kilimani, Adams Arcade, Dagoretti, Karen, and Ngong town.
Over the years, the corridor has experienced heavy traffic congestion, particularly during peak hours, prompting the government to implement infrastructure upgrades, including flyovers, road expansion, and improved junction management.
KURA has urged motorists to cooperate with traffic marshals and observe road signs throughout the construction period.
Drivers have also been advised to plan their journeys in advance and allow extra travel time, especially during the evening and night hours when the diversions will be in effect.
The authority said the works are part of broader efforts to modernise Nairobi’s urban road network and improve traffic flow in high-traffic areas of the capital.
