NAIROBI, Kenya- Eng. Luka Kipchumba Kimeli has been appointed as the new Director General of the Kenya National Highways Authority (KENHA), with effect from February 17, 2026.
The appointment was made by the KENHA Board of Directors in consultation with the Ministry of Transport, led by Cabinet Secretary Davis Chirchir.
In a statement, KENHA Board Chairperson Winfrida Ngumi said the decision was reached after a rigorous recruitment exercise conducted in accordance with the Kenya Roads Act, 2007 and relevant public service procedures.
“The appointment follows a competitive and transparent process, conducted in accordance with the Kenya Roads Act, 2007 and relevant applicable public service procedures,” Ngumi said.
Eng. Luka Kipchumba Kimeli has been appointed KeNHA Director General, effective Feb 17, 2026.
Eng. Kimeli, an experienced engineer and road infrastructure specialist, now takes the helm of KENHA, the agency responsible for the development, maintenance, and management of Kenya’s national highways.
He has 27 years of experience in infrastructure development, strategic program delivery and public sectr leadership within the Roads Sub-Sector, the Board announced.
The appointment comes at a time when the authority is advancing major road projects across the country, including expansion and rehabilitation of key highway corridors crucial to national and regional trade.
As Director General, Eng. Kimeli will be responsible for steering strategic planning, project implementation, and ensuring that KENHA’s programmes deliver value and sustainability in line with government priorities.
The Kenya National Highways Authority plays a central role in the construction and management of the country’s arterial road network, which is vital for economic growth, regional connectivity, and easing transport logistics.
