NAIROBI, Kenya — The National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA) has issued a warning to all drivers regarding traffic offences and vehicle ownership responsibilities.
According to the authority, if a vehicle is still registered under a previous owner’s name, the person currently using the vehicle is responsible for any traffic violations or liabilities.
This includes speeding tickets, parking fines, and other offences incurred while driving the vehicle.
The NTSA urged new owners to promptly complete the Alternative Forced Transfer process to update vehicle registration records and avoid future inconvenience.
Failure to update ownership could result in disputes over fines or legal responsibilities.
“Drivers are reminded that traffic liabilities follow the vehicle’s current user, not the registered owner,” the NTSA stated.
“Completing the ownership transfer ensures accountability and protects both parties.”
