Ukulima Sio Ushamba: Kisii Youth Bank on Agri-Tech to Define Profitable Poultry Farming

Date:

KISII, Kenya – It may surprise you that the poultry farming industry is one of the largest in the world, with a projected market value of $428.12 billion (Sh 55.65 trillion) by 2027.

Staying ahead of the curve is crucial for farmers hoping to maximise earnings and efficiency in today’s competitive agricultural landscape.

One of the most important steps towards this is accepting the developments in agricultural technology, or “Agri Tech.”

Y News has since established that Agri Tech provides contemporary chicken producers a wide range of options to improve their operations, from genetic selection and automated systems to data analytics and sustainable practices.

Knowing and utilising these advancements might mean the difference between success and failure in this profitable business.

How Kisii youth are leveraging Agri-Tech to reap big from poultry farming

Against this backdrop, one youth group in Kisii County has been lauded for its efforts to embrace technology in growing its poultry business.

As the world marked International Youth Day on Monday, August 12, nominated senator Esther Okenyuri Anyieni, commonly known as “Essy” and locally “Nyaituga”, visited the group at their Mkulima Sharp farm.

“Yesterday we got to celebrate the Youth’s unwavering energy, their inherent qualities in catapulting the world to economic liberty and their potential in shaping the future of the world by applying their skills and talent in solving the world’s problems,” the youthful senator nominated by the ruling United Democratic Alliance (UDA) posted on her social media platforms.

A close look at the Mkulima Sharp website indicates that the group “takes pride in providing the finest poultry products to its customers.”

“With a commitment to excellence, we ensure that every egg and chicken we produce meets the highest standards of quality and freshness. Explore our website to learn more about our farm, our practices, and the delicious products we offer,” a statement on the website reads in part.

How technological advancements have significantly transformed poultry farming

Modern poultry farming methods, advanced technologies, and technological innovations have revolutionised the industry, making it more profitable and efficient.

One key area where technological advancements have made a significant impact is the development of modern poultry farming methods.

Farmers like their colleagues from Mkulima Sharp farm now have access to various innovative techniques that enable them to optimise production, improve animal welfare, and enhance overall profitability.

In celebrating the youth, Senator Okenyuri said she toured the Mkulima Sharp, a poultry venture run by five youthful partners in Kisii.

“They have uniquely designed their poultry hub to accommodate laying of eggs, hatching the eggs and growing the chicks to between 1 week to 4 weeks for sale across the country,” said the lawmaker.

The group claims to be committed to ethical and sustainable farming practices. This means that its chickens enjoy spacious and humane living conditions coupled with organic feed, ensuring that its products are delicious and responsibly sourced.

Modern chicken farming methods are one of the main areas where technical developments have significantly impacted.

How Mkulima Sharp group is also gaining high returns from poultry manure

Farmers may maximise productivity, enhance overall profitability, and improve animal care by utilising various cutting-edge approaches.

Meanwhile, Okenyuri further disclosed that the group additionally values chicken excretions and packages as manure and sells them to locals.

“In line with this year’s theme: From Clicks to Progress: Youth Digital Pathways for Sustainable Development, they have immensely depended on technology to guarantee the success of this poultry venture,” Okenyuri added.

The UDA senator serving her first term in Parliament reiterated that the group’s focus on brooders, which ensure 24-hour lighting for the chicks, and hatcheries guarantee faster egg hatching.

“To wrap it all up, they use social media to market their products to customers nationwide. This proves how technology has played an instrumental role in the growth of businesses. Get in touch with them on Facebook and TikTok: Chicken Paradise,” said Okenyuri.

As far as Y News is aware, August 12 is the annual International Youth Day, which is observed to bring attention to the problems that young people around the world confront.

Additionally, it honours young people’s contributions to society and promotes their involvement in political, social, and economic spheres.

Every year, a theme is selected to centre conversations and initiatives about youth empowerment.
