NAIROBI — Harambee Stars midfielder Austin Odhiambo has officially departed Gor Mahia FC, completing a move to Lebanese Premier League side Nejmeh SC, ending a successful three-year spell with the Kenyan champions.

The transfer was confirmed by the Beirut-based club on their official social media channels, with Nejmeh SC welcoming Odhiambo and expressing confidence in his ability to strengthen their midfield.

A New Chapter Abroad

Odhiambo’s switch to Nejmeh SC comes after weeks of speculation linking the creative midfielder with overseas clubs.

The move marks his first stint outside Kenyan football, providing him exposure in the Middle Eastern game and continental competitions such as the AFC Cup.

At Nejmeh, Odhiambo will link up with fellow Kenyan internationals, boosting the club’s East African influence and integrating him into a new competitive environment.

Career at Gor Mahia

Odhiambo joined Gor Mahia from AFC Leopards in October 2021 and quickly established himself as one of the most influential midfielders in the FKF Premier League. During his time with the club:

  • He helped Gor Mahia win league titles and domestic honours.
  • Odhiambo was celebrated for his creativity, vision, and attacking flair.

He also earned recognition at the national level with the Harambee Stars, further cementing his reputation as one of Kenya’s top midfield talents.

Emotional Goodbye

In a heartfelt message to fans, Odhiambo thanked the Gor Mahia faithful for their unwavering support over the years.

He described the decision to leave as difficult, highlighting the “countless memories” and “shared victories” that will stay with him as he embarks on this new chapter of his career.

What This Means for Gor Mahia

Odhiambo’s departure comes as the mid-season transfer window opens, leaving a significant gap in Gor Mahia’s midfield as they aim to challenge for honours in the second half of the Kenyan Premier League season.

His exit will test head coach Charles Akonnor’s squad depth, but it also opens opportunities for younger players to step up and fill the creative role Odhiambo leaves behind.
