Popular content creator and comedian Wilson Muirani Gathoni, widely known as Jaymo Ule Msee, has announced his decision to withdraw from active politics, confirming that he will no longer contest for any elective position in the upcoming 2027 general election.

Jaymo’s move comes after weeks of public speculation about his political ambitions and follows a reflective journey guided by personal beliefs, spiritual growth, and community feedback.

In a video statement shared on his official social media channels on Tuesday, January 27, Jaymo said he had carefully considered advice from elders, family members, fans, and well-wishers before making the decision.

He explained that his evolving spiritual journey and new leadership role in the Wowzi Creators Council require him to remain impartial, making continued active political engagement impractical.

“I have listened to elders, I have listened to relatives, especially my uncle and so many well-wishers,” Jaymo said in the video.

“I have decided, because of my newfound faith and spiritual journey that I am pursuing, I need time to reflect on myself and, importantly, to be on the mission that Allah has called me to.”

Jaymo Ule Msee first rose to prominence as a comedian and digital content creator, using humour and storytelling to engage audiences across Kenya and beyond.

With a growing following on social media platforms, he became known for skits and commentary that blended satire with everyday Kenyan life.

He has also been a radio presenter and media personality, hosting shows and contributing to online digital platforms.

His influence extended beyond entertainment into socio-political commentary, where his opinions sometimes sparked debate among followers.

In the run-up to the 2027 general election cycle, Jaymo had signalled interest in the Nairobi Senator position, generating buzz across social and traditional media.

A key factor in Jaymo’s decision to step back from politics is his spiritual transformation. In late 2025, he publicly revealed that he had converted to Islam and adopted the name Hakeem Amir Malik.

His conversion, described as a deeply personal spiritual rebirth, he now says has reshaped his priorities and life purpose.

Alongside his announcement, Jaymo offered a heartfelt apology to fans and politicians who may have been offended by his earlier political commentary.

In a separate message, he acknowledged that some of his political content, especially remarks that touched on sensitive issues and individuals, had sparked criticism.

He specifically referenced reactions to his commentary on the June 25, 2025 maandamano protests and other politically charged content, admitting that his involvement in political debates may have hurt or disappointed some followers.

“I know that while doing my politics, I might have rubbed people the wrong way because Kenya is a democracy, and we have different opinions on different issues,” Jaymo said.

“I want to apologise to anyone that my statements might have hurt or that you did not agree with and felt bad. Politics is like that: we always agree to disagree.”

He also plans to focus on creating new digital content and film projects, using his platform to entertain and inform without the divisiveness that often characterises political discourse.
