Woman claiming to be musician Bahati’s mother.

The award-winning musician took to his social platforms, saying he was shocked after watching the viral video in which the unidentified woman from tearfully introduced herself as his birth mother.

Bahati began his statement by revisiting what he has always known to be his truth:

“My mother died over 25 years ago. I personally attended the burial and I know where she was laid to rest.”

The singer said seeing the woman’s claim circulating on social media brought him both confusion and emotional pain, forcing him to confront memories he has spent his entire life accepting as fact.

He went on to admit that the situation has left him unsure about what steps to take, and he asked his fans for guidance.

The woman, who identified herself only by her first name in the trending video, insists she gave birth to Bahati decades ago but lost him due to extreme poverty and an inability to take care of him.

According to her, she left her infant son at a children’s home after social workers assured her he would be taken care of — only to later be told he had passed away.

She now claims she recognised Bahati years later through his rising public profile.

Her emotional appeal includes a request for forgiveness and a willingness to undergo a DNA test to prove her claim.

In the video, she says she carried the burden of guilt for years and believes now is the time to tell the truth, no matter how painful the process may be.

Bahati’s brand has long been intertwined with his upbringing — from his years at ABC Children’s Home, to losing both parents early in life, to the journey of hardship that shaped his music.

The sudden emergence of a woman suggesting his entire childhood narrative was built on a mistaken identity strikes at the core of his personal story.

The online reaction has been overwhelming. Many urged him to remain calm and pursue a DNA test for clarity and closure.

Others, however, cautioned him to be wary, suggesting the woman could be motivated by the singer’s fame, financial status, or the attention surrounding such emotional claims.

A section of fans empathized with the woman, reminding the public that poverty has pushed many Kenyan mothers into heartbreaking decisions — including giving up children they could not raise.
