Kenya Power Lists Areas in 10 Counties to be Hit by Blackout on Wednesday

NAIROBI, Kenya – Kenya Power has issued a notice announcing planned power interruptions across at least 10 counties on Wednesday, December 3, 2025, as part of scheduled maintenance on its distribution network.

The utility firm said the outages—set to run between 8:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. in most areas—are necessary to “facilitate network refurbishment, enhance service reliability and support ongoing system upgrades.”

Regions and Counties Affected

The planned maintenance will affect parts of Kitui, Taita Taveta, Siaya, Nyeri, Kirinyaga, Kiambu, Nairobi, Nakuru, Kericho, and Bomet counties, with dozens of specific towns, estates, institutions and villages listed.

In Kitui County, areas around Kyuso, Katse and Tseikuru—including Gai, Mivukoni, Nguuni, Mwangea and adjacent villages—will be offline from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

Taita Taveta County will see outages around Sir Ramson Primary School and neighbouring customers during the same time window.

In the Western Region, customers in Usenge, Wangarot, Jaramogi University area, Wambasa and Uhanya in Siaya County will also experience day-long interruptions.

The Mt Kenya region will face widespread outages, including:

  • Nyeri County: Kiangai, Kianwe, Gatura Market, Ihara Village, Miiri, Kamunyaka C/Fact, among others (8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.)
  • Kirinyaga County: Difathers Market, Kamunyange Village, Kajiji Market, Kathiriku, Ichangi, Karuangi and nearby areas
  • Kiambu County: Witeithie, Kibute, Ndarugu, Total Gatitu, Mangu High, Ndarugu Coffee Estate and several neighbouring estates

In Nairobi, outages will target Mihango, part of Rosslyn—including diplomatic residences—Garage Road and surrounding areas.

The Central Rift Region will see blackouts in parts of Nakuru County, including Kabarak University, Kabarak High School, Ngata, Maraga Farm and neighbouring locations.

In the South Rift, Kenya Power listed:

  • Kericho County: Kenegut Market, Torsogik Dispensary and Moi Sitotwet
  • Bomet County: Olpisiai, GK Prisons Kilgoris, Lolgorian, Mariaranda and Kichwa Tembo

Kenya Power’s Advisory

The company urged customers in the affected areas to plan accordingly and treat all power lines as live throughout the maintenance period.

These scheduled outages form part of ongoing infrastructure upgrades aimed at improving supply stability, especially ahead of the festive season when electricity demand typically rises.
