Kenyan media has been abuzz in recent weeks with growing speculation about veteran journalist Jeff Koinange — a familiar face on Citizen TV’s ‘Jeff Koinange Live (JKL).’
His prolonged absence from the airwaves has prompted questions, rumors, and increasingly vocal concern from fans.
But now, some of Kenya’s top media personalities are stepping forward with reassurances about his health and status.
Jeff Koinange has not appeared on JKL since August 2025, yet the show continues to broadcast under his name, with other hosts like Ayub Abdikadir stepping in.
This odd arrangement fueled speculation — was he suspended, fired, or even facing serious health issues?
Some online voices went as far as suggesting he appeared intoxicated on air in past broadcasts.
The silence from Citizen TV and Royal Media Services (RMS) only deepened the mystery.
Meanwhile, rumors circulated widely — including unverified claims that Jeff had been ‘sent into early retirement’ due to personal struggles.

Some of Jeff’s closest colleagues have now publicly addressed the swirling rumors.
Fanya Mambo Kinuthia, his co-host on Hot 96, told listeners that he had spoken with Jeff just days before and confirmed that “Jeff Koinange is alive and well.”
Kinuthia emphasized that the rumors — especially those about being fired or showing up drunk on set — are “unfounded.”
According to him, Jeff “doesn’t want to come and respond to every barking dog on the street.”
On X and other platforms, Xtian Dela shared a screenshot of a WhatsApp conversation between himself and Jeff.
In it, Jeff replied: “Bro bro. I’m alive and kicking.” Dela used the exchange to call out what he described as “clout chasers” pushing false narratives.
In a video posted by his longtime friend Jeff appears relaxed, walking with Kageni as he addresses his audience:
“Hey folks, Jeff Koinange here … all is good all the time, and I’m gonna be back very, very soon — sooner than you know. So, hang in there.”
Kageni, in the same clip, reassures viewers: “Jeff is doing great and will be back on our screens very soon.”
This short, calm message has helped ease worries about his health and possible departure.
Despite these reassurances, some parts of the media are still asking why Jeff hasn’t made a detailed public statement.
The Kenya Times notes how confusing it is for JKL to continue using his name even without him present.
A few fans have called for transparency, suggesting that Jeff might simply be dealing with personal matters and deserves space, not wild speculation.
Jeff Koinange is more than a TV host — he’s a loved personality. From his days reporting for CNN to heading his own talk show, he has become a familiar, trusted voice in Kenyan media.
His sudden absence has left a vacuum that fans, media watchers, and critics are all watching closely.
Many viewers are still waiting for a clear and detailed explanation from Jeff or Citizen TV about his absence. Whether it’s health, a sabbatical, or a strategic shift at JKL, Kenyans want clarity.
