Android & iPhone Users Can Now Share Files Smoothly

Date:

CALIFORNIA, USA – In a landmark move for mobile technology, Google has announced that its new Android devices, starting with the Pixel 10 series, can now send and receive files using Apple’s AirDrop protocol.

This development bridges a long-standing gap between Android and iOS users, who have historically relied on cloud links, email attachments, or third-party apps to share photos, videos, and documents across platforms.

The feature is built on Google’s redesigned Quick Share system, which can detect Apple devices with AirDrop enabled.

When a Pixel device sends a file, the recipient’s iPhone, iPad, or Mac recognizes it as a standard AirDrop request, allowing peer-to-peer transfers without storing content on the cloud.

Interestingly, Apple was not involved in the development of this functionality. Google engineered Quick Share to work with the same discovery and transfer standards that AirDrop uses, effectively creating seamless cross-platform sharing independently.

Currently, the feature is limited to the Pixel 10 family, with Google planning to expand compatibility to more Android devices in 2026.

Apple users need to enable the “Everyone for 10 Minutes” option in AirDrop to receive files from Android devices, while Google hopes future updates may allow deeper integration, such as support for AirDrop’s “Contacts Only” mode.

How It Works:

  • From Pixel to Apple devices: Open Quick Share, select a file, choose the Apple device, and tap send. The Apple device will display a standard AirDrop prompt.
  • From Apple devices to Pixel: Ensure Quick Share is active on the Pixel, then select the Pixel as the AirDrop target and approve the incoming transfer.

This update is being hailed as one of the most significant steps toward cross-platform compatibility in mobile history, potentially reducing friction for millions of users worldwide.
