CCTV Footage Identifies Suspects in Killing of South B Boda Boda Rider

Date:

NAIROBI, Kenya — Detectives are piecing together the final moments of 30-year-old boda boda rider Anthony Otieno after CCTV footage captured the suspects linked to his killing at Meridian Apartments in South B.

Footage shows Otieno arriving at the building shortly after noon with a blue delivery bag containing a brand-new iPhone 17 Pro Max. He is seen taking the elevator to the fourth floor and making a phone call, presumably to reach the client who had placed the order online.

Moments later, CCTV shows a man leaving the room via the staircase carrying the same blue bag. At 12:02 pm, a second man hurries down the stairs, followed closely by a third suspect, half-dressed and clutching a package.

A Nissan Note then pulls up at the entrance, and two of the fleeing men enter the vehicle before it drives off.

Earlier footage from November 16 shows one of the suspects entering the building at 7:22 am with the same bag, accompanied by another man. Later that afternoon, a woman joined them; she was later captured wearing clothing that matched one of the male suspects’ outfits.

On November 17 at 6:46 pm, the woman is seen leaving the building with the bag via the elevator.

The room where the murder occurred had been rented by a group posing as long-term guests. The owner, Charity Muthoni, told police she received a call requesting the unit for a month and was later promised payment by 4 pm on November 18.

When she visited the unit for a routine check, one of the men asked her to return later. Growing wary, she remained close by and eventually saw the suspects leaving with a bag.

After confronting them and confiscating the bag due to non-payment, she inspected the room and found blood stains on the floor. She immediately alerted neighbours and authorities.

Otieno’s body was later discovered under the bed in room number 14 on the fourth floor. His hands and legs had been tied with rope, and a scarf forced into his mouth. Police recovered a knife, a metal rod believed to have been used in the attack, and the iPhone he had been delivering.

An autopsy revealed he died from blunt force trauma to the head.

The father of three had left his workplace around 10:30 am to deliver the phone, which had been ordered via WhatsApp by a man who claimed he was in Eldoret and that his “brother” Hillary would collect it from the apartment.

Detectives are now tracking the suspects captured on camera as part of an ongoing homicide investigation.
